My Grand Daughter Lonnie with one of the Tri Mini Rex.

Dixieland Jazz, Chocolate Tri, owned by Laurie Rasile

Tiny Tim, Blk/Orange Tri owned by me

Tri colors are one of my favorites, but boy are they a challenge!
Not only to have the body and type, and the spots in the right places, and to have the right colors. I was a glutton for punishment for 18 years and raised the big Harlequin rabbits in all the colors, I thought I got out of it!! No way! The Tri's come in choc./orange, black/orange/blue/fawn and lilac fawn.
My favotite is black/orange because of the contrast. That color carries at least one dominate black gene and at least one dominate orange or red gene as well as one dominate broken and one dominate Tri gene. The best crosses are Tri to Tri or to harlie, however I have crossed out to a broken red with good results. If you don't cross to dilutes, like blues, your colors stay richer.

This is a Japanese harlequin Mini rex, black/orange. The Japs is what we are using for a base color of orange and fawn and base colors of black/blue/ and lilac. We don't want magpies, with white in the Tri's, as it would produce something on the order of a black/blue Tri which is not recognized.

The next one that I am working on now, Choc./Orange. There was none in my area, until a friend had one crop up out of no where, and I got him. I have been crossing broken chocolates in this line to get nice dark chocolates. Don't cross to blues as it fades the color too much. They say you can do it, but my experience says No! It puts you back a generation. The choc./orange Tri's carries the (choc/black) pair as recessive the orange/red gene as dominate, one dominate broken and one dominate tri gene.

The blue/fawn Tri is dilute, and can only carry and hide the lilac/fawn genes. The lilac/fawn tri is recessive and dilute and cannot carry or hide any other color. If you get your fawns too light, it fades your other colors. I have some very vivid orange/blacks, to the point of red, and some folks say too red.
The line between orand and red is real fine.

Isn't color what it's all about?? Loud??

These are my ideas and what I like!

Treasure
